One-Line Bio

I'm a simple man with an ambitious plan to make the world a better place and enjoy myself in the process.

I am a man who believes that you should live life by your own rules (but we must also never forget the Golden Rule). In 1990, at the age of twenty-two I moved with my Chocolate Lab "Nutty" from Albany, NY to Portland, OR in search of something better. Little did I know at the time that I had fortuitously moved to 'SoccerCity USA'. However, my official reason for moving out west was to begin graduate studies in Urban Planning at Portland State University. But I also had dreams of big mountain skiing in deep, elysian powder. So sight unseen, I packed up my old Subaru for the lush environs at the confluence of the Willamette and the mighty Columbia Rivers just sixty miles west of Oregon's most famous and tallest peak, Mt. Hood. At 11,280', Hood is the spiritual heart of my universe as it is for many other Portlanders who love the treasure trove of natural wonders throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Over the course of the ensuing fourteen years I have managed to earn my Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning and accrue a unique resume of experiences that have brought me down this path to the doorstep of freedom, adventure, and exploration. Since finishing my graduate studies I've worked for a coalition of neighborhood associations, for a local political campaign, as a waiter, as a soccer referee, as a paper-pusher issuing building permits for the City, as a radio talk-show producer for an outspoken liberal who was canned in the wake of the misguided patriotic fervor brought on by the horrible events of 9-1-1, and as a driver for a movie screen on wheels. You might say that I've never quite found my niche in the regular nine-to-five work world, but I think I've finally found my niche in life.

The Football for Peace Tour and its companion book 'Planet Soccer' - to be published in 2007 at the completion of my global journey - represents all of my dreams and aspirations. As a State Referee in Portland, Oregon, I often like to think of my on-field role as peacekeeper. Now it's time to share that philosophy off the field as well. I hope that you'll take a look at my blog and join me on my my mission of goodwill and peace as I visit all corners of the globe beginning in the summer of 2005.

Thanks again for taking an interest in my planetsoccerblog. I would love your feedback...please let me know what you think.

And best wishes to you on your journey wherever you might be...

Telemark skiing in the backcountry, the game known throughout the world as football (including my work as a soccer referee), tossing the frisbee (frees my mind and spirit), engaging in spirited discourse on social and political issues, reading non-fiction travel literature, cutting-edge humor (particularly the Daily Show w/Jon Stewart on Comedy Central), long roadtrips through desolate western landscapes, and much much more...
